Community Services Program

Disagreement, disputes and conflict are not unique to large, fully resourced workplaces. Yet engaging in conflict effectively and collaboratively is essential to the operational health & efficiency of all organizations, as well as the wellbeing of the people within them. Receiving skilled external conflict resolution help can be transformative; ensuring that team relationships are nourished, rather than diminished by conflict.

The goal of ADR Education’s Community Services Program is to make high quality, responsive intervention and training services accessible to community organizations (not-for-profits), to strengthen the good work they are doing in the community.

Select intervention and training services are available to community organizations on a sliding-scale pricing model to eliminate financial barriers to these services.

Sliding Scale is a price structure where fees for services are not fixed, but are based on an organization’s ability to pay. Clients are advised of the usual service rate (the top end), as well as the lowest accepted rate (bottom end). Clients are encouraged to pay a rate that matches their financial capacity.

The Community Services Program uses a sliding scale price structure to ensure you have the necessary tools to thrive as an organization without financially compromising the services that benefit your communities.

Facilitative mediation is a process where parties in dispute discuss the issues between them with the help of a neutral-third party (the mediator). The role of the mediator is to manage the process and provide communication expertise that aids the

parties in finding potential for collaboration and win-win solutions. One of the benefits of mediation is that it can reset a dynamic of collaboration to relationships where competition has taken root.

Facilitation is about providing meeting design & communication assistance for efficient group discussions. Unlike mediation, these sessions are not necessarily problem solving or dispute resolution focused; goals may include: strategic planning (setting organizational vision & mission),

public engagement or information sharing. The role of the facilitator is to manage the process to maximize participation, creativity, focused discussion and ownership of any decisions made by the group.

Training workshops provide participants with the knowledge and specific skills to understand, assess and manage their own disputes. Workshops are tailored to the specific needs and interests of the group including, skills for collaborative

discussion, communication models to orient yourself in the midst of conflict, interest-based negotiation, etc. Interactive workshops provide opportunities to practice applying the skills and theory presented.

Healthy, collaborative working relationships are essential to ensuring team satisfaction and efficiency. Conflict assessments provide an expert, neutral third-party assessment of the dynamics, systems and culture that sometimes make collaborative professional relationships difficult in teams.

Team members are engaged through confidential interviews or surveys, and expert analysis is presented in the form of a report that is intentionally non-blaming; making recommendations for growth and positive change.
